Learning Spaces for Net Generation: A Case Study at KMUTT's Library

King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi

(KMUTT) has developed suitable common space for promoting life-long learning (self-directed and collaborative learning) called KMUTT’s Learning and Information Commons (KLINICS). In 2005, the first phase, KLINICS1, was established under the concept “a home away from home for learning” to provide information, technology and social to students in a comfortable, homelike space. KLINICS1 obtained good response from users, so KLINICS2 (which is similar to KLINICS1) was installed in KMUTT’s Bangkhuntien campus; however, KLINICS2 obtained less appreciation as it may not meet the needs of users at the campus. In 2008, KLINICS3 was established to emphasize more on promoting collaborative learning and inspiration through socialization. To evaluate the outcome of KLINICS3, the survey of user satisfaction was conducted between 1 April 2009 and 12 May 2009. The results showed that the average of mean user satisfaction is 3.97 out of 5.00. Other supportive information, such as the motivation and inspiration of learning, was also collected for planning learning spaces for not only net generation learners but also general users in the future.
